  1. As modern big-band leaders go, Quincy Jones in the '60s would be first choice for many composers who wrote for a television series or the cinema. Though not the original themes, Jones was quite able to produce a full album featuring Henry Mancini 's famous songs from movies and the small screen. This collection of the familiar and obscure Mancini done in , preceded famed epic scores written by Jones 8/

  2. It was reissued on an audiophile lp pressing a few years back though. These are fun takes on Mancini originals. Jones sure has a great imagination and is fun. The occasional track sounds dated using sound effects that was popular in the 60's, but on the whole, this album is really fun and is worth checking out/5(24).

  6. If ever anyone was predestined to lend the final polish to Henry Mancini's film and TV themes, then it must certainly have been none other than Quincy Jones. The melodies which provided the background music to over films just kept buzzing around in one's head, and they very often remained far longer in one's memory than the often banal.

This is in a way a tribute album to Henry Mancini since he was responsible in part for allowing Quincy Jones to break the color ban of allowing African American composers to arrange in the studios. He and Earle Hagen raised cain to the studios to allow Quincy to score films and TV, the first being "The Pawnbroker" then of course later on "In /5(24).
